Routine maintenance for EKGs includes performance checks and calibration. However, even with these more technical procedures, basic visual inspections are important for finding wear and tear. Teams may spot worn cables, damaged connectors, loose components, and other issues that may affect how reliably the equipment and its accessories function. Start With the Exterior

A visual inspection of the exterior should focus on changes that could affect the machine’s condition or day-to-day use. You can compare what you see with the manufacturer’s cleaning and maintenance guidance to help you tell the difference between normal wear and damage.

  • cracks, loose panels, or damaged corners
  • buttons or knobs that feel loose or damaged

Examine Cables and Leads

Inspect the full length of each cable and lead wire, paying close attention to areas near strain reliefs where repeated bending may cause extra wear. Look for cuts, cracks, peeling insulation, stiff sections, blisters, or exposed wiring. Check Plugs and Connections

Review Paper and Accessories

Check that the paper tray and printer door move smoothly and close properly. Paper scraps, residue, or visible roller damage may point to a problem that needs attention. It’s also important to use paper that meets the requirements for the specific EKG model.

Accessories need to be checked, too. Look over reusable clips, carts, and cable holders for damage, loose parts, or areas that are difficult to clean. If something doesn’t look right, follow the manufacturer’s guidance and your facility’s procedures for the next step.
